I’ve had the idea to begin chronicling my journey of sustainably acquiring my possessions for a few years now. I live in the U.S. and my relationship with consumerism and possessions is complicated and ever-evolving. There are many reasons people might be on a similar journey to mine in an attempt to curb net-new consumerism. Whether it be environmental concerns, financial limitations or simply preferring secondhand items due to declining quality of many newly produced items, I plan to share my experiences and learnings. This will be far from my first foray into secondhand shopping, but I feel I am in a good place to share tips and tricks for others if they are just starting out or are looking for new angles after many years. I am hoping this will be a place to explore the modern intersection of consumerism, consumption and sustainability with a lens towards quality and community-based solutions.
I hope to share my thoughts and ongoing accumulation and release of *things* throughout this year and perhaps beyond. So, what can you expect from me? I am hoping to share a post each month on recent experiences, seasonal tips, and any other musings rattling around in my head. I am certainly not a “professional” (if such a thing even exists), but I am someone who has acquired most items I own second hand and have developed a system of vetting these items which I am happy to share with others.
Thank you for reading,
